Nigerian photographer Fati Abubakar writes as she visits Zabarmari community 2 weeks after the massacre -“The most resilient people I have ever seen”

Acclaimed Nigerian photographer, Fati Abubakar on Tuesday December 15, shared photos from her visit to Zabarmari community, Jere Local Government Area of Borno state in the aftermath of the gruesome massacre that shook the whole country.

Recall that Boko Haram terrorists slaughtered Zabarmari rice farmers at Koshebe village in Mafa Local Government Area of the state while working in a rice field.

“On 28th November, 110 people were killed in Zabarmari by the terrorist group Boko Haram and seeing the community continues in the aftermath was devastating. They seemed to be still in a state of mourning. This beautiful place with it’s rice farming and fishing has the most resilient people I’ve seen in a while,” she wrote.

“Thanks to this reporting, I’ve felt the physical and emotional pain of farming [compounded by the security issues] and also the heartbreaking cocktail of emotional turmoil that one feels living in a conflict zone but also having to think about continuation of life’s daily activities in a constant state of grief.” she added
